Today’s make is one of my Make Nine for 2019. I always feel extra accomplished when I check something off my Make Nine list. Like high-giving, fist pumping accomplished. Not quite literally. But I do feel pretty proud. lol. The Kila Tank is the third completed make from the list. I will definitely need to speed it up a bit on my list if I’m going to finish by the end of the year. I still have 6 things left to make in the next 7.5 months. Totally do-able. :)
DIY Wrapped Cardigan by Seamly
Like many sewists, I am afflicted with the pre-travel compulsion that makes me want to sew everything so I can take it all with me. Even if I spend months and months planning and sewing for the trip, I still end up sewing new things in the days (or nights) before a big trip. At the beginning of May, I took a week long trip to Copenhagen and despite starting my planning and sewing in January, I still made three last minute garments. I spent some time thinking about why we do this to ourselves and I have a few theories. One, it’s fun to wear new things and when we go to a new place we often need different kinds of clothing. Two, we want to feel fabulous on vacation and a new handmade garment is a great way to feel so. Last but not least, we’re worried that we are going to miss sewing while we’re gone and need to get in as much sewing time as possible before leaving. What are your reasons for last minute travel sewing? Let me know in the comments.
Indiesew Spring Collection – Seafarer Top and Envelope Clutch
My friends over at Indie Sew recently released their Spring Collection and I've gotta say it's pretty sweet. I'm thrilled that they asked me to participate in their blog tour to launch the collection. It is full of wardrobe basics that you can sew over and over again. Including two tops, a dress, a pair of jeans and a clutch, it's basically everything you need for a long weekend trip. (I'm leaving on a trip in three short days so all I can think about right now is what to put in my suitcase! Come to think of it, this would be a great collection to outfit yourself for Spring Break.) You can buy all five patterns in the collection or just the tops and dress in the mini collection (I think this a great option for beginners not ready to tackle jeans).
