VIDEO Four Handmade T-shirts

VIDEO Four Handmade T-shirts

Hi sew friends! Today I’m trying out a new content format for my weekly video. I’m sharing some things that I’ve made. For the past few weeks, I’ve been sharing tips and tutorials that will help you sew a knit t-shirt and today I’m going to share FOUR different t-shirts that I’ve sewn.

In the video you’ll get to see how the t-shirts look on my body and I give a few thoughts on each pattern. I’m keeping my reviews pretty brief because I honestly loved and would recommend all of these patterns. Keep in mind, every pattern is going to fit each person differently because we all have such different proportions. For reference, my measurements are approximately: upper bust: 35.5”, bust: 38.5”, waist: 28.5” and hips 39.5”. I'm also 5’11" with a long torso and square shoulders.

Also it should be noted that I used completely different fabrics for each shirt so it’s not a true one-to-one comparison. A different fabric will result in pretty different fits. So, this is just for fun, not a true 1-1 comparison.

The Ultimate DIY Sweatsuit

The Ultimate DIY Sweatsuit

As a pattern maker, I always end up making my patterns many, many times during the development phase. And usually end up with an excess of supplies for those particular patterns. When I was developing the Ali Sweatshirt, I was constantly on the lookout for sweatshirt fabric and grabbed a few yards whenever I found it. I found this classic grey sweatshirt fabric on a visit to The Fabric Store’s LA location (now sadly closed). It has a nice amount of stretch and is a nice lightweight that is perfect for the warm climate of Southern California. I first used this fabric to make a sample of the Ali Sweatshirt which I wear all the time. But I had a good amount leftover so in January I decided to make a matching pair of Hudson Pants. And voila! A fully me-made sweatsuit. (Side note, there’s something about January that always makes me want to sew cozy things like pajamas and sweat pants.)

DIY Compression Leggings – Review of the Avery Leggings pattern by Helen's Closet

DIY Compression Leggings – Review of the Avery Leggings pattern by Helen's Closet

Today I'm really excited to share a new make with you. These compression leggings have been on my to-sew list for my upcoming trip to Copenhagen and I've finished them just in time. The pattern is the Avery Leggings by Helen’s Closet and it's amazing. I’ve made a few pairs of leggings before, using a pattern I drafted myself and the Virginia Leggings pattern. They are really fun and easy to sew. And they make great wardrobe staples. The Avery Leggings by Helen’s Closet is an upgrade from the basic leggings pattern. It features a two-piece waistband and a gusset making it more similar to athletic wear. I especially love the high waisted option and that the gusset provides more comfort and ease of movement.
