DIY Outfit – Trapeze Top

As I shared in my coral moodboard yesterday, I have a big thing for the color coral. I also love simple, swingy tops like this trapeze style from Kate Spade Saturday. It has great shape yet is still flattering when worn with something fitted on the bottom. The simple shape makes for a very easy, quick DIY. Read on to see how I would make it.

How to DIY a Trapeze Top

Step 1: Our inspiration top is a simple tank with a few touches that make it extra special. It's fitted at the shoulders and then flares to the hem with a dip in the back. There's more fullness in the back giving the front a smoother look. The fabric is a cotton jersey, meaning you don't need any closures.

Step 2: The design can be achieved by altering a basic tank pattern and adding fullness to the body. If you're not feeling so bold as to draft your own, Simplicity 1463 is a pretty close match to our inspiration if you take the body of View A and the armholes from View E. To really match our inspiration, you might want to add some extra fullness to the back.

Step 3: For the fabric I found this coral colored jersey from Mood Fabrics.

I would love to add a top like this to my wardrobe, especially if it was in coral. In the meantime, my sewing list is quite long and I will have a new make to share with you tomorrow (in coral of course!).
