What I'm watching Ep. 1

I am a big tv watcher. Especially while I'm sewing or crafting or blogging, which is pretty often. Years ago, I gave up on cable tv because of the cost and went all streaming. I have a Roku and stream tv and movies via Hulu, Amazon Prime and Netflix. I thought it would be kind of fun to share some of the things I'm currently enjoying. And maybe you can tell me what you're watching? I'm always on the lookout for something new. :)

This week I started on a Jane Austen kick, that is re-watching all of the movies I've already seen a number of times and enjoying them again. There's something sweet and comforting about watching a familiar show. Plus, it doesn't matter if I get distracted or wander away for a while because I already know what's going to happen. Here are my top 5 available streaming:

1. Pride and Prejudice (the 6 hour BBC tv version naturally) I actually own this one on DVD. So good. Perfect for a big knitting project on a lazy weekend.

2. Emma The 1996 Gwyneth Paltrow movie is available on Amazon and Netflix. And the 2009 TV miniseries is available on Amazon if you have some extra time.

3. Sense & Sensibility Currently available on Netflix this gem has some great actors. The quiet, emotional tension is amazing.

4. Mansfield Park Not my favorite of her novels but a well made film. Available on Amazon and Netflix.

5. Clueless Did you know that this 90s favorite was inspired by Sense & Sensibility? If you're tired of the 19th century costumes, this will perk you right up. While you're watching the fun inspired by flicks, you might as well turn on The Bridget Jones Diary, the sequel to which is currently streaming on Netflix.

Now if you've watched all of those and are looking for another period English piece, I highly recommend the miniseries Cranford. Also worth mentioning, and seeking out, are these modern Austen inspirations: Lost in Austen, The Jane Austen Book Club and Austenland (in descending order of my favorites). They're not available streaming but worth renting. So, what are you watching right now? Do you have a favorite Austen movie?
