DIY Low Back Knit Dress

This dress was a total impulse-sew. You know, like an impulse purchase but a sewing project! The idea just popped into my head one day and I set to work pretty much right away. The dress is a basic scoop neck tank dress with the twist that the back scoop is lower than the front.

I modeled the design after the Striped Knit Maxi Dress that I made earlier this summer, except I shortened the length and modified the scoop depth in front and back.

The pattern is based on the tank top pattern from the book Sew U Home Stretch by Wendy Mullin. It's a great basic pattern that I've used a number of times before. I think this could be my One Week, One Pattern. I love wearing knits and a tank style is perfect for the Southern California heat. If I'm cold I can throw on a jacket or sweater and when it's warm just take it off.

I've already worn this dress and I totally loved it. I'm sure it's going to be a staple of my wardrobe. My only thought was maybe it was a little too loose and I should take in the side seams a smidge. Or just leave it as is and keep working on my other many sewing projects. :) While I do enjoy making more complicated things, it's the simple, easy knits that I find myself wearing the most often. Do you have a go-to pattern, something that you wear most often?
