Today, I'm sharing about my main sewing machine—my workhorse—the Janome Horizon Memory Craft 9400QCP. I'll be sharing the things I like about the machine, the things that I don't like, how much I paid for it and give a short demonstration of a straight stitch. I bought this machine a little more than three years ago, in 2019, and I’ve used it a lot so this is all from experience over a length of time. That said, my preferences, may not be the same as yours. (Check out this post with tips for finding a sewing machine that works for you.) This is the first video in a new series, where I talk about the sewing machines that I use regularly. I hope you enjoy it!
Watch the video above for all of my tips, or if it's not working, you can watch it on YouTube here. Be aware: When the machine is turned on, the computer screen flickers in the recording. It's a frame rate thing and my film making skills are not sophisticated enough to fix it. If you are sensitive to flickering lights, you may not want to watch from 2:26 to 11:58. The computer screen does not flicker in real life.
Janome Horizon Memory Craft 9400QCP Pros & Cons
PROS
Big area for quilting (sewing bed has 11" to the right of the needle)
Twin needle stitching
Auto thread cutter
Auto presser foot lifter
Automatic buttonhole stitch
Easy to adjust tension and easy to revert to original tension
CONS
The backstitch bunches up with medium to light weight fabric
Auto threader doesn't really work anymore
1/4" piecing foot broke (forgot to mention this in the video)
I forgot to mention this in the video, but I am not affiliated with Janome and purchased the machine on my own accord. I have been a sewing machine ambassador in the past but didn't want to have any commitments to a particular company. If you are looking to buy/get a new machine, I recommend checking out this post with tips for finding the perfect machine for your needs and budget.
I hope that this information was helpful. Make sure to subscribe to the newsletter and/or YouTube to be notified when the next two videos in this series are posted. Coming up, I’ll be sharing about my vintage Singer Featherweight machine and my Brother 1034D serger. Happy sewing!
