Summer Sewing No. 1 – Pink Pleated Top

I'm steadily continuing on my

Summer Sewing Plans

and today I'm sharing the first item on my list, the pink stripe pleated top. The pattern for this blouse is

Simplicity 1661

, View D. I used the pattern

once before in View C

with yellow polka dot fabric. I love the pleats at the neck, the swingy shape, curved hem and open back.

Last week, I said that I had finished all of my striped pieces but low and behold I had one more! I bought this fabric from the

LA Mood Fabrics store

. It was love at first sight for this pink and navy striped Japanese cotton. The fabric is not your traditional printed cotton. It's kind of like a woven ribbon. The more I worked with it the more I realized how delicate this fabric is. I was very careful not to snag the fabric. I'm a little worried that the fabric will pill so I'm planning to just hand wash the fabric and treat it with extra care. Isn't it a beautiful fabric though? And so unique.

Simplicity 1661 is very easy to make both the tie-neck and the stand up color. I highly recommend it and would even consider making it again.

The top is pretty loose on top so it works best paired with fitted bottoms. Here I've paired it with:

DIY Braided Fabric Bracelet (Check out my tutorial here.)

Denim Mini (Mine is a few years old, from J.Crew. Similar here and here.)

Navy Flats (Mine are Steve Madden. Similar here and here.)
