DIY Outfit – Flared Skirt and Jacket

Sticking with my black and white theme for the week, I chose this gorgeous outfit from 3.1 Phillip Lim's Spring 2014 collection as today's DIY Outfit inspiration. I know it's spring right now and I'm working on a fall wardrobe but living in Los Angeles, my wardrobe changes very little from season to season. A light jacket or sweater is usually all I need during the cooler months. So, an outfit like this is one that I could wear almost year round.

How to DIY a Flared Skirt and Jacket

Step 1 I love the combo of the sophisticated high neck jacket and the flirty flared skirt. The entire 3.1 Phillip Lim collection is worth checking out for how it mixes black and white with splashes of color.

Step 2 The silhouette of this outfit is pretty basic and would be easy to replicate. For the jacket, I would use Vogue V8916 and for the skirt, Simplicity 2314, View C

Step 3 For the fabric, I would use a classic white linen like this one from Fabric.com. It would have nice drape for the skirt and work well as a jacket.
