Continuing this week's nautical theme, I found a cute little striped dress that will take you from pool party to yacht club with sweet sophistication. This style would look good on any body type and it's really easy to DIY yourself! Read on to see how I would make this dress.
How to DIY a Striped Mini Dress
Step 1: Today's inspiration dress is a sweet and sophisticated little number that can easily be dressed up or down with a change of accessories. The contrasting stripes on the side bodice take what could be a run of the mill striped dress and make it extra special (and extra slimming!).
Step 2: The key to this design is a princess seamed bodice, sleeves and a seam at the waist. Simplicity 1652 fits the bill perfectly. To match our inspiration dress, the only changes necessary are to eliminate the side belt and the sleeve cuffs. Just make sure to cut the side bodice with the stripes going up! I actually own this pattern but have yet to try it out. I'm attending a wedding this summer and maybe this will be the pattern I use!
Step 3: This dress is made from a simple black and white striped cotton. The heavier weight of the fabric gives the skirt a nice flair.
