Today, I'm very excited to announce the launch of a new sewing pattern, the Jodi Knit Pants. I've been working on this pattern for quite a while now and I'm so happy to finally share it with all of you. Ever since the pandemic, I have really committed to wearing soft pants when I'm at home. But I was looking for something more stylish than a jogger and more modern than leggings. Basically, I wanted all the comfort of athleisure but a more elevated style. Thus, the Jodi Pants were born with a mid-rise, skim fit and wide legs.
The Jodi Pants are my 14th pattern woohoo! and I think they are a great addition to the collection. I have patterns for shorts and a jumpsuit but this is actually my first pants pattern! It was definitely time. In the photos, I'm wearing the Jodi pants with my Lou Box Top and Ali Sweatshirt and I really think they make such nice outfits.
ABOUT THE Jodi wide-leg knit pants SEWING PATTERN
When designing these pants, I wanted something that was comfy enough to wear every day but with a more stylish look. I want to feel like I'm wearing pajamas but look like I got dressed, you know? The Jodi pants are a mid-rise with wide legs and angled side seam pockets. If you want, you can also add a drawstring and top stitching to the waistband.
The fit is what I'm calling a "skim fit", there's just a little bit of negative ease but they are not tight or form fitting. The pants are fitted at the mid-waist wide elastic, then the skim over the hips with 1" of negative ease and fall to the ankle. If you would like a tighter fit, you can easily size down; just make sure that your fabric has enough stretch to accomodate.
This pattern is rated as an Advanced Beginner level but I believe it can be sewn successfully by anyone. The hardest thing is sewing with knit fabric. So, if you have sewn a t-shirt before you can definitely sew these pants. I have lots of tips on the blog about sewing with knit fabric and they are linked in the Jodi Sewalong.

Sizing for the Jodi Knit pants
The Jodi Pants follow our "sportswear" size chart, which uses letters. If you've sewn the Ali Sweatshirt or the Summer Sweatsuit pattern, it's the same chart. Except! The Jodi has two additional sizes. Size O is 50" (127cm) waist and 60" (152cm) hip measurement. Size P is for a 52" (132cm) waist and 62" (157.5cm) hip measurement.
All of our patterns are designed for a tall height of 5'10". No matter your height, everyone has different proportions to their torso and legs so I recommend checking the inseam and crotch depth to see if it suits you. The finished Front Crotch Depth is listed in the Finished Garment Measurements chart (see above). This is measured in the front from the top of the waistband straight down to the crotch. You can adjust the garment length at the lengthen/shorten lines to suit your height and style preferences. There are tutorials linked in the sewalong (and hyperlinks from the pattern booklet).

Fabric and supplies
This pattern is designed to be used with medium-weight knit fabrics with at least 30% 2-way stretch, such as French terry, ponte de roma, or sweatshirt fleece. A heavier fabric will show more of the wide leg while lighter weights will have more drape. You can also use fabrics on the lighter end of the medium spectrum, I would just avoid tissue weight fabrics that might become sheer when worn. (But of course, if you want sheer, then go for it! :)
Additionally, you will need 2" (5cm) wide elastic for the waistband and thread. If you'd like to add a drawstring at the waist, you'll also need twill tape or cord for the drawstring and a scrap of fusible knit interfacing to reinforce the buttonholes.
See the charts below for quantities needed.
Tools
You do not need a serger to sew this pattern but I do recommend having a walking foot or a machine with a dual feed system. Additionally, I recommend using a Jersey or Ballpoint needle.
